La Femme Exhibit at James Cox Gallery Held in Conjunction with Woodstock Dem’s Fund Raiser
The James Cox Gallery at Woodstock will launch its fall season with an exhibit of artwork created by or depicting women. “La Femme, Images of 19th and 20th Century Beauty” mirrors the theme of a fundraiser the gallery is hosting for the Woodstock Democratic Committee. Slated for Thursday, October 10th from 4:30 to 7 p.m., “Breaking Glass Ceilings”, will feature remarks by Outgoing Ulster County Committee Chair Kelleigh McKenzie, the first woman to hold the position, and incoming chair Barbara Graves-Poller, the first black person to head the committee.
The gala evening will include live music, wine, cheese, chocolate and a signature cocktail. Each ticketed donor will also have an opportunity to enter a raffle for several prizes donated by local businesses including Woodstock Spa, Silvia, Goodnight and others. “We are pleased to be able to help in this effort,” Cox remarked.
“We are also delighted to showcase artwork that compliments the important focus of the evening”. The exhibit includes paintings, drawings and watercolors by several artists from the historic Woodstock art colony, including Emil Ganzo (1895-1941), John Fenton (1912 -1977), Joseph Garlock (1884-1986), Doris Lee (1905-1983), Mary Anna Goetz (B. 1946) and Dewing Woodward (1856-1950), who with a group of fellow female artists created the famed Blue Dome Fellowship.
